last night was fun

05 Jan

I am sure you noticed that my “rolling post” yesterday ended after the 2:30 edit. It was video shoot time after and quite a bit of good work was accomplished painlessly and with some fun. At 6:30 we stopped and cracked out the wine. As the evening wore on folks streamed in and out of the Turtle Dove with good wishes and cheer.

Once again… Thank You everyone! Now here are some pics from last night… and there are actual shots of me this time. Click thumbnails for bigger sizes.

… 49… 50! (a rolling post)

04 Jan

9:45: AM

Technically, I turned 50 at 9:10 AM yesterday (PDT) since I was born in sunny Malaysia half a world away. OK, actually it was just past midnight when I was born but… you catch my drift. So, I kinda like this extended birthday idea because of different time zones thing… just sayin.

I’ve just slurped down a mug of Java and ready to roll on the chores of the day. Figured I’ll get them over with so the rest of the day will be freed up to be busy. (WTF, Lecram!) Well, I have a video shoot this afternoon – that’s the busy part.

What has occurred thus far? You know about the coffee… gave Mum her breakfast drink… got a birthday call from my cousin Dennis from Malacca (his birthday was yesterday) and now I’m here blogging. Exciting, huh? Are you on the edge of your seat yet? LOL!

Anyway, this will be a rolling post as the day wears on. Check back sometime later, will ya? Cheers!

meat49NOON:

Just got done with Mum duties… though I’ll get her lunch right after this update. Todays duties were a little more exhausting than the normal as I also changed the sheets. So, Mum is now on clean sheets… YAY!

Anyway, remember what I looked like at 49? Here… this was taken yesterday scotch in hand. Later on I’ll post what I look like at 50. You’ll be able to compare the mugs and decide for yourself if I wear well with age.

OK… now… lunch for Mum. Cya later.

1:30 PM

Note of advice to the general populous: It is bad karma to screw-up someone’s schedule… especially if it happens to be that person’s birthday (a momentous one by conventional reckoning too) … especially if that person offered you a tidy sum to act… especially if the gig could lead to other paying ones… especially if it affects the schedule of other people involved in the project… especially if messages left are not returned and there is concern over your well being because they were not.  That’s just bad form.

2:30 PM

At least I know the music for this video is going to be fun. The composer (who didn’t know about the amended schedule) just left and we got to work on some stuff for the video. So, all is not lost then.

third day of the new year…

03 Jan

… and it’s going well so far. Not particularly spectacular but that is not necessarily a bad thing. If spectacular happens right off the bat… where do you go from there?

dadnmeI received a cd in the mail yesterday from a cousin in Australia. It contained a database of the family tree. She has been working on it for a while and there is really neat stuff in it. I’m guessing too that it had something to do with all of us being spread out all over the world within the last 2 generations. Always a good idea to track back from whence we came. (Yes, OK… I’ll admit that it is a diabolical plan for us to attain world domination.)

Heck, there is even a picture of me as a baby being carried by my Dad circa 1959… one I do not have a copy of. How cool is that?! Seriously, check out the “Y” frames for the clothesline. (I know it is weird for me to mention that… but I remember those.) Also, check out the cool cut of the pants my Dad is wearing. The dude was elegant, I tell ya! Anyway, here is a snippet from our pod in the family tree…

Harold & Cuthbert married two sisters Gertrude (Gertie) and Beatrice (Betsy) Skelchy respectively. Uncle Harold is Malcolm’s godfather and he was our sponsor at our wedding. We spent several happy times with Uncle Harold and Aunty Gertie before we were married. Marcel has a flair for the Arts. He went to Fresno University in USA to study Journalism but did Theatre work instead. He has produced several plays. “Frogway” was his first one and has his own company.

Going through it I also discovered that my middle name is from my great grandfather Maximillan Anacletus Nunis who was born around 1863. (Hmm… for some reason mine is spelt Anaclato… perhaps dyslexia is a family trait.) Anyway… by any reckoning… that is a damn cool name!

It’s something my cousin did for her three sons… Christopher, Trevor and Mark. Bravo! I say. Thank you Eleanor… the value of something like this is immeasurable. Plus, it is one of the great birthday presents I have ever received. (Yeah, I turn 50 tomorrow… it’s just a number, isn’t it?) To all of you who send wishes via email, phone, comments, FaceBook… a very warm Thank You. Be assured that I will continually make an effort not to screw-up royally. LOL!

Not like you came here to re-read this but here is part one of the transcript of my show “Lies My Father Told Me” that I wrote and performed at the Rogue about three years ago. (HERE is a review from that show.) Yeah… it is linked at the end of each one to the other installments… there are 4 in all.

Da Count – what was my day like?

05 Jan

For a non-event it was fabulous! Really, I mean it. Let me clarify. Those of us who are born during or this close to the major holidays are used to folks forgetting our birthdays… or giving half hearted wishes. Really, can you blame them? Afterall, they are usually totally spent from the gush of the holiday season. So, I for many years have just stopped celebrating… or even attempting to. Really, it’s like pushing a truck up a hill with a wet noodle.

So, I opted for the non-event. And it works out great. There are no expectations and as a result anything that comes my way is a total bonus. That being said… I want to thank everyone who dropped by to wish me and actually put aside the time to make me feel special today. It’s nice being remembered… really.

The day was dank and rainy… weather-wise. So, my day consisted of:

  • Waking up at 4 AM (the dogs barking) and receiving the loveliest of emails to start my day off. This set off my day in a wonderful way.
  • I went back to bed at 5:30 AM. Slept through some great lucid dreams. Really, it was fun to be able to be in the “driver’s seat for those.
  • Got up at 11 ish AM and noodled around including some great surfing.
  • At 1 PM…. I cooked.
  • 2 PM… surfed a little more and discovered that Os had posted a birthday wish.
  • At 2:30… hit the sack from the inertia that set in from stuffing my face… from the results of cooking. (Pure bliss.)
  • 4:30 PM… took a shower and got ready to go out. My ride came by at 5 ish.
  • Hit the Tower District. Did ArtHop and really enjoyed walking the wet streets alone hopping from gallery to gallery. Free food, wine and coffee.
  • Went to the regular wateringhole… drinks were bought for me. A few friends turned up. No big deal was made but the company and conversation was much appreciated.
  • Got home at 10 PM… a little buzzed but satisfied with all the bonuses that the day granted me.
  • While I was home received several calls asking where I was… let’s have a drink, etc. Thanks… but my day out is done… appreciate the thought and the effort of the calls though.

Now, I sit here whacking on the keyboard. There is a quiet solace warming my being and I will head to bed with a smile. So, not making a big deal is actually a wonderful thing as the surprises and delights it brings make the day full. Expectations would only have brought diappointment. My real gift was having this day… and tomorrow presents me with yet another. May all of us have days like this for as many days that the weeks hold… that is my birthday wish for you and me.

I think that counts, don’t you?

To lazy now… but some pics my be posted later in the morning.

My very first post…

03 Jan

… OK, perhaps the second after my test. So, these are my new digs… how do you like it? Kinda brazen and red, huh? Well, so be it. It’s mine! All mine!

Yeah, I have a new domain now. http://lecramsblog.com . (Go ahead… change it on your blogroll… I’ll wait. *toe tapping*… good!

I was going to migrate it to marcelnunis.com… but I thought it deserved it’s own home. Of course, it will be linked from there… and the old blog will also be migrated here in a few days. I’m trying to consolidate all the different blogs, websites, etc… I have so that it will be easier to manage. There’s not much to see here at the moment… but, hey I just got the place! I’ll decorate soon enough. I’m sure this place needs a little more tweaking… (like, what the heck is going on with that background???) but that will come in time.

Oh, and if you want your very own… go to Jungle Webs… both blog and arts friendly… and AFFORDABLE! Heck, with a domain and hosting it’s less than $5.60 a month! And I’m running a sale until the 12th…. .COMS are only $6.95 a year! OK, yeah… it’s my internet business… can’t blame a guy for trying, right? More on that in the coming days!

Now thats out of the way… the reason I’m unveiling this today (Thursday… the 4th) is that it’s my birthday! Which sort of calls for a baby pic… so, here’s one!

And the lovely Binsk and Phain both share this birthday with me…. go over and wish them too!

Well here it is… the night of my current age and tomorrow I’ll be a year older… er… better. Like fine wine… or a single malt scotch (which I should have had tonight …. but the black label was pretty good) or… left over stew or curry… at least I’d like to think so.

The plan for my Thursday? As little as possible. You all have a good one!

Cheers!
