disruption

29 Sep

busy_receptionist.jpg

Getting sick last week and putting me out of action for most of it has really screwed with my schedule. I’m at present playing “catch-up” as there are some deadlines looming on the closing horizon. All exciting fun stuff but the work needs to get done or it won’t be as fun and exciting.

This may necessitate me actually staying away from the internet for the next few days… unless of course it is work related. So, bear with me for a bit. The upshot of all this is that I may have more material to blog about once these things are accomplished.

See ya when I do… and have a great weekend!

Here, enjoy an excerpt from “Modern Times” where Charlie sings. Yeah, this is the end of the movie but if you want to watch the whole thing (it’s in 9 parts on YouTube) you can start HERE!

Da Count – when friends find it

28 Sep

dacount

I have heard directly from several friends this week. At least 3 of them informed me that they have “found it” or at least are in a state of happiness that they think they have. There are various “it’s” involved here ranging from new love to a long awaited trip.

Sometimes we are privy to the deepest desires of those we know. Sometimes it is spoken but more often than not they are kept in silence. Yet there is an innate part of us that has a clue of that “something” that would make all the difference… a difference that would be life changing. And when that something comes we can’t help but crack a secret smile knowing that no one else deserved it more. That even though this change may radically impact the frequency of our interaction with them we know they are moving on to better… and that becomes our solace.

So, my count this week is the fortune that shines on these friends of mine and their glow that I have been honored to witness. In all probability this fortune will carry them away but I will always smile at the time we once shared and be happy for this ray that touched them.

no HNT from me tonight

26 Sep

I’m still sort of floating in recovery and not as inspired as I should be to put something out. I don’t see the point in half-assing (yes, pun intended) something.

On another note… if you happen to be in the big NO this weekend here are some great shows to catch. Click the poster for bigger version… and sample a sliver of Barry’s show in the video below. (Those of you in the SF area… Barry plays at The Marsh tonight!)

time to plug em in

26 Sep

scalems.jpgOn my shopping adventure with Joy the other day I got myself a new beard trimmer. WHEE! The old one I had finally gave out. It served me well in it’s lifetime and I have been without one for the last 3 months. It was getting to where I could have joined ZZ Top the way my face fungus was going. Now, unless you are wont to wear whiskers on you face you probably will find it hard to understand what a big deal this is. A good trimmer is prime.

I also bought a clock radio that projects time on my ceiling or on my wall or where ever. I’ve had it for a couple of months but have yet to plug it in. Yeah, what a geek, huh? I think I’ll point the projection over my bed so that if I wake up I can ee how much time I have left.

Really, how many of you out there buy gadgets and perhaps don’t get to them until a few months later? I find that I’ve been doing it more and more of late. Then, how many of you when you finally get to firing those things up the expectations either exceed or fall short? I’m running at 50-50 at the moment.

I ventured out yesterday

25 Sep

It’s the most I had done in a while. The lovely Joy was my cohort. It was all done under the guise of shopping… which we did with a restrained vengeance. Then, under the flimsiest of excuses we ended up over at the usual watering hole where we ran into other friends and happily yammered on the rest of the evening. It was exactly the tonic I needed to kick start my adjustment in routine.

I just had to get back home to catch the season premier of “Heros“. I have to admit that even though I enjoyed it I was also a little underwhelmed. Perhaps the sparkle of newness from the new season has worn away. I’ll still watch it but I suspect that the anticipation to catch episodes may not be as fervent as it was last year. I did catch the the first episode of “Journeyman” right after. It’ll be interesting to see where it goes and how it develops from this point on.

Lots to get to today so I’ll update as I go along… maybe in a new post.

new day, week and perhaps routine

24 Sep

I’m about 90 -95 percent at the moment. In some ways it was almost like being cocooned and now I’m re-emerging anew. Yes, it’s about change… or at least readjusting some of the old routines. In a lot of ways the last year has sort of been like a long cocoon.

There is a need to shake up my old routine a bit so that I can be more physically active… if for nothing else for the sake of my health. The hours in front of the computer needs to be shaken and broken up into smaller chunks. My situation still demands me being around the homestead for the majority of the daylight hours but small 2 hour chunks may be given away.

More later…

EDIT: Yes, you are… enuff said.

about 70 percent…

22 Sep

…thats where I am right now. It will be 2 or 3 days before I am up to full steam. I did laundry today… even went for a short bike ride. There is still tummy percolating but that seems to be easing up. Problem is I’m craving solid food… though I know diving in now will just be a setback.

For most of my life I have nursed myself back from whatever I have been afflicted by and generally do pretty well. There is always a combination of folk remedies and modern medicine I use… though always deferring to the folk ones first. There is also the faith that the human body has amazing self healing capabilities that I rely upon. I do not have a particular aversion to doctors and modern medicine but tend toward helping myself first.

I think a lot of this has to do with my closer than most relationship with doctors and hospitals especially in the first 12 years of my life. For a while I thought that existence would make up the sum total of my life so now if I don’t have to see a doctor or be in a hospital… I rather not.

I’ve been pretty bad about visiting, commenting or replying to my comments… and I promise to be better about that. Hope your weekend is going well.

EDIT: Oh yeah… the mini-doc I made “Aileen-a working artist” was screened before the main feature at the Reel Pride Festival tonight. As much as I wanted to be there I thought it was best not to push it in my condition at the moment.
