my favorite HNT 2009

30 Dec

I didn’t really do that many (Half Nekkid Thursdays) this year but I did enjoy the ones I did do. Here are a couple leading to my favorite for the year.

(BTW… click the pics to go to the original postings.)

There was the one on meeting Mark Leslie in SF… which was a real treat!

I had a lot of fun shooting Mako too. I’m sure you will agree that he was a great subject.

And finally, my personal favorite (on so many levels) was this year’s Sarong to Summer. Sitting in that special spot where friends and family shared so much of themselves with me during a challenging yet special time earlier in the Summer. Enuff said.

Cheers! Happy HNT & have a Grand New Year!

been up since 4 AM…

30 Dec

… and spent some time catching up – looking at photos on several cousin’s Facebook pages… cousins whom I’ve recently reconnected with. Once again I was taken aback by the several lifetimes I seem to have lived in this one. It all brought a smile to my face though with the happy memories those pictures activated. (Not unlike Picture Daze… when I used to do it regularly.)

All of this has been part of the self assessment I have been undergoing of late. The “where have I been and where am I headed” thang. Not that I’m coming up with any hard answers but it’s a good thing to do every once in a while just for a sense of clarity. Though having been in the arts (as a profession) all this while it seems to be a constant exercise. What act in (this play called)  life am I in? (Still trying to figure that one out.)

On to other things…

Da Count has been missing from this blog for the last 2 weeks. I really should do something about that… and soon!

Anyway… on with the day.

a couple of announcements

29 Dec

First… lecramsblog.com will cease to exist after the first of the year. I have migrated posts from 2 earlier editions of my blog to this one. Plus if you still want to go there it will be housed at http://dablogsdathang.blogspot.com/

Next… my annual prediction for the year (in this case 2010) will appear like in previous years here in a similar short post. So, don’t ask me now… it only comes to me at 12:01.

I watched the final installment oof Ken Burns “Jazz” last night. It’s been nearly 10 years since I first watched it. It’s really quite wonderful. You should do yourself a favor and watch it. In fact, someone uploaded all 10 episodes on youtube… if you are so inclined. I highly recommend it.

To help you get started… here is the first 10 minutes.

And… who knows… there could be yet another post from me today… if the spirit moves me.

it’s THAT week!

28 Dec

The one between Christmas and New Years. In different periods in my life it meant different things to me. In my prepubescence it was the week of visiting relatives as part of the Yuletide routine. In my teen years it was either capitalizing on the holidays (and being off school) to go camping.

In my young adult life (in college) it was capitalizing on the holidays to make day trips to the Sierras for the purpose of playing in the snow. In my early adult life (out of college) it was consumed with possible New Years plans. And until about 3 years ago it was my busy season with all things theatre… either I had several shows going at once or I was prepping for the Rogue.

And what about now? I guess now it’s more about enjoying the time off from the regular routine… which is fine by me.

The only consideration that has been floating off and on in my mind has been the age old question of “what next”. (This can also be interpreted as “what trouble can I stir up next?”) I have not begun to examine the possibilities but it
gives me a certain glow to know that by asking the question that I’m not done yet. (OK… you can put that fork away now.)

That’s how I’m starting my Monday… how about you?

BTW… the picture is of one of my favorite local seasonal light decorations. It’s kinda blurry… but you get the idea.

it was always Christmas eve…

24 Dec

… for me as I was growing up. That was THE night! The excitement, the anticipation of the weeks before all led up to midnight mass, supper and presents.

When I was a wee tyke I didn’t have a Christmas stocking. Instead it was a pillow case just to give the big guy in the red suit the opportunity to be generous when her broke snuck in to plant the pressies. In later years, he would visit while we were at midnight mass.

So, here it is… Christmas eve and I’m smiling at those memories. I will be cooking Chicken Stew Pie for midnight supper. The pressies may not be in my pillow case or under the tree… but the food remains… and always will.

Have a warm, safe and merry one!

(one of the indications that IT WAS FINALLY HERE… is the Chipmunk Song… enjoy! Also… sorry for the weird tag at the end of the song.)

tis true…

21 Dec

… I have yet to post my count for last week. It will come. Promise.

It’s been quite the weekend. Friday night was spent both at the Starline Grill and the Starline itself. Merlinda Espinosa @ the grill with a holiday program and Nate’s annual “mmm… mmm… Christmas” over at the Starline. Both fun events. I usually go to the latter to catch up with old friends and blow out my lungs with the “12 Days of Christmas” as a full contact sport. Anyway, here are some pics from the night. Click images for fuller sizes.

because tis the season…

19 Dec

Da Count will be late…

18 Dec

… this week. I’m thinking of putting it in a video format. So, it will be up sometime this weekend.

it’s been a couple of days…

17 Dec

… but I don’t have that much to say at the moment. So, here is Ella and Joe to entertain you.

another quirk…

15 Dec

… about hang drying laundry is that it takes 2 days to get things dry… especially if there are “heavier” clothes involved. Plus, if there is an overcast sky due to a high fog one has to wait for that to clear for the sun to peek through. How different it is in the Summer when the clothes on the line dries within an hour of being on the line. Yes, it is true… I do like stating the obvious. LOL!

fresnomet Speaking of the obvious, sad news in the papers today… the MET may be closing. As soon as January the reports say. I do have mixed feelings about this simply because I worked there in a different lifetime. It is a valuable resource, etc but part of the folly here was the recently completed renovation. (That is another thing I have mixed feelings about.) I think it was originally budgeted at $10 million and ended up costing $27 million. Plus that “folly” happened long before the present economic downturn.

Don’t get me wrong… I am all for improvements and such. It is just a fact that when something is budgeted… the longer one waits to move on it the more expensive it is going to cost. (Have we not already seen enough instances of this in the recent past? Hello!) Perhaps proposed budgets should (be mandatory to) include projected costs increases over time when originally created. The law of realism (which I just made up) states that the longer one drags one’s ass the more it’s gonna cost… and that is even in the best of times. OK… so, I’ve taken the management to task there but there is enough blame to spread around.

Anyway, we can only hope for the best now… whatever that may be. Obviously no help (or effort) will come from the apathetic or those who voice disdain for anything Fresno… as evidenced by some of the comments in the original article. To them I could say “shit or get off the pot” but those folk are actually both shitting in and on the city they reside in. Conclusion: There seems to be quite a few who like living in their own shit.
