Da Count – streaks

10 Oct

dacountNo, I’m not planning on running through a public place in my birthday suit. First, I do not run that fast so the chances of me getting nabbed and thrown into the pokey is much too probable for my liking. I’m talking in this case about the streaks that life bestows upon us… for instance, the “lucky streak”. I can say that my life has and (hopefully) continues to be populated with these streaks… maybe more so than the average person.

Streaks are not merely limited to luck either. Like the streak of concerts that I experienced in the last week… I’d like to think in some way it was earned. Sort of a version of “it is in the giving you receive”. Lecram… are you getting all religious on us?! You are not starting some sort of wacky Church of Lecram, are you? No, this is based on practical observations.

I have a theory that streaks of any sort are not purely coincidental. The next thing to bear in mind is they are not always pleasant nor are they regulated to a time limit. They are clusters of occurrences or experiences or events or mindsets, etc… that all seem to have a commonality during the period they are playing out.

As time has marched on I have come to believe more and more that these streaks are actually directly related to how we conduct our lives and the attitude we bring to it. It seems there is some illusive “energy bank” that no one has told us about and was somehow omitted from the manual of life. We all have secret accounts here where the energy of our actions and motivations are deposited. Interest is accrued and dividends are paid out periodically with these streaks. The quality and nature of each is colored by our own accumulated attitudes at the instant of our actions.

As an example I have observed on multiple occasions friends who have gone through a string of failed relationships. Perfectly nice people who on the surface don’t seem to deserve the heartache of what has befallen them. Yet if you choose to engage them in conversation about it you notice they share with bitterness, it was always the other person’s fault, yada, yada. You also notice (at least I have) that their list of needs, wants and demands far outweigh their output in attitude or direct action. In short they have chosen to play out the part of guest in their own lives instead of host.

Then they go through the “swearing off” period during which time they (sometimes) reorder their lives. They begin doing for themselves with positive output and energy that shifts away from the needy behaviors that used to rule. Bitterness is shed, new attitudes cultivated and they are actively “moving on” with life less and less encumbered by past attachments and behaviors. Often during this period, when they usually claim “not to be looking for it” true love… or at least a compatible, fulfilling and healthy relationship finds them. Yes, I’ll admit it has also happened to me… but that’s all I’m going to say about that. LOL.

More active in my life are the creative streaks. And looking back I can see a pattern where personal output has resulted in equal payoff. Sedentary periods have produced streaks of “writer’s block” and less than pure motivations have produced streaks of less than successful work. I can’t help but draw these correlations to similar principles behind the natural laws of returns that are part and parcel of the “do unto others” segment of just about every religious philosophy.

As such, I can only conclude… at least for myself that streaks are not an accident of fate or luck. So, this week in a somewhat odd count the streak it is. I am thankful for those that have occurred and hope my continuing actions and motivations continue to generate positive ones.

a karmic energy bank – I too believe that we make our own luck. Lots of books have been written on this subject – from Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill to The Secret – don’t remember the author

daveo – aye. I don’t think it is an accident that similar principles exist in most religious philosophies as well as science. It also befuddles me to no end that too many choose to ignore it choosing to fixate on the baubles of dogma instead.

Well said Marcel. As we’ve seen of course religions, like politics, sometimes give people more reasons to focus on differences than our simiarities for the sake of humanity.
This is not to say that I don’t have faith. On the contrary, I have always believed if your motivations are true to yourself and if you continue to treat others as you would want to be treated, Karma works. I always try to stay actively engaged in the world around me, because I believe that is the way it will stay actively engaged with me.

Aileen – a lot of folk think this simple pricinple only relates in some intangible spiritual realm (at least those I’ve had discussions with on the topic)… I happen to believe that it has more practical application to everyday living.

okay….since everyone else went all deep and crunchy granola, I’ll be the shallow one (yes, as usual) and lead with:

come on, Lecram! Let’s go streaking! I’ve got your back!

    oh…on second thought…
    :) )

APj – shallow? the ground was barely damp.

Marcel, Yes, I think this should be an everyday application as well.

And Jayne, thanks for reminding us how fun the shallow end of the pool can be. Sometimes I like to go to the deep end, but thank god for the shallow end too! Gives the mind a rest . . .
