it’s time for the rat balls!

11 Sep

There are critters in my roof I suspect of the rodent variety that need to be evicted. This influx usually occurs when renovation is undertaken somewhere in the neighborhood… which it has of late. So it’s time to roll out the “rat balls”! My own recipe for rodent control at the homestead.

Ingredients:
1 can of dog food
rat/mouse poison
paper towels

Method:
Mix dog food with rat poison. Put a tablespoon on a paper-towel and roll into a “paper ball”. Repeat process until you run out of the lethal mixture. Place paper-balls in nooks where you suspect there is rodent activity… (presence of rodent poop is a good indicator… study diagram above.)

Firstly, rodents are attracted to paper. To them it’s akin to winning a spree at an Ikea store. “Honey, I think this will look just darling in the nest… especially if it’s shredded just so.” Then they find that the pretty paper-ball contains the surprise bonus of goodies inside. “Woo hoo! Pretty and yummy! Oh heaven… munch… munch.” You can be sure that the news spreads like wildfire among the rest of the rodent population… “Psst… paper-balls is manna!” “Ohhh… look I found one too… munch… munch…” Within 3 days the death march begins to the rodent’s graveyard.

I pride myself with the effectiveness of my “rat-balls”! And yes… I used my vast training as a playwright to think like the rodents do in order to come up with the method for their “final solution”.

Yikes… I never had to kill rodents, but am quite good at exterminating cockroaches, which are about the size of small mice here. When we moved into the flat, I had to kill off four or five of them…

    1) run after it, 2) step on it, with shoe on your foot!, 3) make sure it’s really dead, 4) take a paper towel and pick it up, 5) put it in the bin.

Much better then spraying them with poison, cause these bastards are tough, and run for a couple of meters after you have sprayed them

    … aah, the tropics…

Cosima – yeah, the roaches in that part of the world are big and burly bastards.

heather – I know your own fondness for rodents and wish there was another way but unfortunately it’s them or us.

ugh.. but then you’ll have a rotting rat corpse infestation.

    i’d move.

keda – the stuff I use actually sends them out in search of water where upon drinking it seals the deal… and that is usually outdoors. BTW… good to see you back! :)

LOL @ winning a spree at Ikea! rat nirvana

lime – the Buddhist concept of nirvana = nothingness… where the rodents are concern is exactly what I’m aiming at.
