that play I wrote…

… opens at the IndyFringe in a couple of weeks. It might seem strange but I’m more interested than excited to find out how the audience reacts to it. The only reason interest trumps excitement is because I’m still in “writing mode”… or more specifically “tweaking mode” on the piece. The show performed reasonably well at this year’s Rogue Festival. As part of the continuing writing process I watched every performance to spot possible needed …

from a different lifetime

This was posted up on my Facebook wall the other day with a simple message that read “Remember this?” It was a partial cast picture from a production of a musical I had co-written titled “Jack: Beyond The Beanstalk”. A fun little ditty that was re-written and remounted several years later restructured and with a stronger script. At the time I was one of 2 playwrights-in-residence at the Fresno Children’s Playhouse. This picture came from …

strangely excited

The days of late have been filled. Part of the time has been taken up with prep for the show I’m doing… or re-doing as the case happens to be. Re-doing in more ways than one. Yesterday I think I finally came up with a beginning and ending that I’m happier with… and serves the purpose as to why I chose to do the show again. (Those details will be revealed at a later time.) …

yep… I’ll be doing this

Sure, I could float around during the Rogue watching shows, sipping on cocktails and hanging with performer friends… OK, I’ll be doing that too but I’ll also be doing this. Right now my time is being spent retooling the show. …

just when I think I’m out…

… they pull me back in again. OK… sort of but not really. This is the cast of “Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet)” having a read-through under my gazebo/canopy last night. Last Friday the cast of “The Godling” was rehearsing in the same place. I’m really not involved in any of these productions. Just because I’m not involved in theatre… doesn’t mean I can’t support it in whatever way I can. In this case… rehearsal …

gearing up for a write… or five

Yeah, you read that right. It’s time to dive into the ocean of words and hopefully emerge with something worthy for the stage. But not just one… at least 5 are sitting in wait for me to tackle them and pin them to the page. So what is this “gearing up” thing you speak of, Lecram? Well, it’s been a while since I’ve been in the “zone” to do so. Plus, as I’ve mentioned before …

jumping in head first… once more

So, yeah… this is the show I will be doing in May. I’m reworking the show I did for the 2006 Rogue, “Lies My Father Told Me“ (links to the review) with a live musician (my old college room-mate, Johnnie) “soundtracking” and sound effects on the guitar. What I’m really excited about is KP’s new show, “Tales of Laos”. Anyway, details to follow.
